Christmas Story

Unsensational…yet the most sensational thing in history

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Christmas is getting bigger and bigger.  People start shopping and preparing for it earlier and earlier.  Our expectations of the festive season are greater and greater.  We want to see the largest Christmas tree, the most amazing light installations and receive the most flabbergasting presents and as a result, Christmas is getting busier and busier.

If you look very carefully between the Christmas village, the choo choo train whizzing around the track and the Santa ho ho ho-ing, you might just see a quiet beige and brown stable with a tiny baby inside.  The nativity scene is often the most unsensational of all the decorations in our homes….yet…it represents the most sensational event in all history.

We search so heard for that “festive” feeling and I get it, I’m as much invested in it as everyone else and yet, what could be more exhilarating than celebrating the event that gave us the chance to be free! The phenomenon that gave us the opportunity to have eternal life.  What could be more sensational than that??  The baby that came from God to grow up into a man, to bring peace in our hearts and set us free from torment.

I’m not criticising the beautiful lights and decorations.  I LOVE them! I’m just suggesting that whilst you’re enjoying the festivities, you are filled with wonder at why we really celebrate Christmas.  Christ Mass.  The celebration of Jesus coming to earth.  If you stop for just a moment and ask Him, God will fill you with the Peace He came to bring.  It is Peace beyond understanding and reaches to the depths of who you are if you’ll let it.  It can calm your heart in the midst of the raging storm of your life.  Jesus came to bring you that.  He is the most sensational gift.

Have a wonderful Christmas and find His incredible peace in the midst of all the busyness x
